The Final Stretch...

I'm officially the worst blogger but here it is, the last day of Tour de Bean! I just realized that I have more pictures of food than of biking but enjoy them nonetheless! Day 4 took us from Smithtown to Flushing in Queens. We wanted to bike all the way to Manhattan but traffic was just too crazy so we just hopped on the subway!

Well it's all over now but I hope you all enjoyed this blog, and I do hope that it inspired you to get out there and do your own adventure. You don't need the top of the line equipment (I bought my bike, a 1985 Schwinn, for $100 from a guy in Craigslist) or be a world class triathlete (I wear a knee brace if you haven't noticed) to do an adventure like this. Just like National Geographic Adventure's motto, you just need to "Dream it. Plan it. Do it".

As for our next adventure, like mentioned before, Jon is already eyeing a San Francisco - L.A. bike ride. As for me, I have quit my job and will be climbing some mountains in New Zealand! Last but not the least, we both have been dreaming about doing a TransAmerica bike ride. We know it's a big task but at least the "Dream it" stage is done! =)

Thank you once again and if we can do it, so can you!

Welcome to the Empire State!

Day 3 was probably the most scenic stage of the tour. We started off with a 1 1/2 hour ferry ride across the Long Island Sound to Orient Point. From there it was 60 miles of panoramic vineyards and breathtaking farmlands. We got to Smithtown pretty late and were worried we wouldn't find any food but as the pictures show we had a major feast!

Bike, Beer, BBQ; always a good combination!

Enjoy the snaps!

Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg! (yes that's a real word)

Day 2 was all about one thing: Endurance. This was the longest stage of the tour with about 70 miles of epic riding but I absolutely loved every part of it, from the beautiful towns we passed by to the gorgeous scenery we rode through. Connecticut is absolutely beautiful and I would definitely recommend biking through the Constitution state if you ever find yourself in a bike tour. We basically rode the whole of Connecticut from the MA-CT border to the port city of New London. It was a long ride but it was definitely worth it. Next stop: The Empire State!
